Albania, Kosovo, and North Macedonia are poised to become much sought-after tourist destinations due to their untouched natural beauty, rich cultural heritage, and affordability.

Tour Details

The mountainous regions of Albania, Kosovo, and North Macedonia offer a blend of rugged landscapes, rich cultural heritage, and unparalleled natural beauty.

On this fully guided 8-day hiking and cultural tour we start in the Theth and Valbonë Valley National Parks in the Albanian Alps. We have 3 days of hiking here, perfect to explore the mountains and valleys, breath-taking peaks, alpine meadows, and traditional mountain villages.

We then travel into Kosovo, to the town of Prizren at the foot of the Sharr Mountains where the Ottoman architecture is reflected in the historic buildings. Pristina, with its rich tapestry of mosques, cathedrals, and markets is our next destination. From here we cross the border into North Macedonia and stop off at the spectacular Matka Canyon, know for its butterfly colonies, and take a boat ride to explore Vrelo Cave, one of the deepest in the world. The journey continues to the cultural heart of the Balkans, Skopje, where Mother Teresa was born. We explore the Ottoman-era Old Bazaar and the ancient Stone Bridge before moving onto the UNESCO–listed town of Ohrid, on the shores of Lake Ohrid. Expert local guides will join us to impart their intimate knowledge as we venture around each city, ensuring a fully immersive experience.

Come with us on this unforgettable journey through the southern Balkans, where stunning landscapes remain unspoilt by mass tourism. Experience a rich blend of Eastern and Western cultures, shaped by ancient civilizations, the Ottoman Empire and more recent historical events. Engage with local traditions, cuisine, and customs in a way that feels genuine and immersive and is far from the crowded tourist trails.

We continue on to the Blue Eye of Theth, a natural spring with crystal-clear, vibrant turquoise water. We will enjoy a refreshing swim if you are keen and a picnic lunch here before heading back to the village of Theth.

Day 4 (B,L,D) Hike Valbonë Pass, Hike 15kms

Today we tackle the Valbonë Pass, a key highlight of our trip. The pass connects the picturesque valleys of Theth and Valbonë in one of the most remote and beautiful regions of the Balkans. Offering stunning panoramic views of rugged peaks, deep valleys, and verdant landscapes. The trail typically takes 6-8 hours as it winds through alpine meadows and forests, and rocky terrains. We’ll stop for many rest breaks, photo ops, and a picnic lunch as we traverse the pass. At the summit, it will all be worthwhile as we are treated to breath-taking vistas of both valleys.
