We’ll also go on tasting trails (including wine, gin, cheese, chocolate and more), there’s an option to view some controversial art at MONA, and top it off with some artisan shopping at the Salamanca Markets. Hello Tasmania! We’ll arrive in Launceston and meet at our hotel at 6.30pm. After introductions, we’ll go out for our welcome dinner at Tasmania’s multi-award-winning Stillwater Restaurant.

This tour of Tasmania is action-packed, so enjoy the slower pace today in Launceston. We’ll start with a visit to Cataract Gorge an easy walk from our accommodation. Generations of Launcestonians have cherished Cataract Gorge as their place to reconnect, unwind and relax. Whether you want to walk for hours or just sit under a 130-year-old tree, there’s something for everyone.
This afternoon we will wander into the city to see why it was named ‘UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy’ in mid-November 2021. Take a leisurely stroll around the many cafes and bars on a casual Sunday afternoon and see for yourself how it won this accolade.

Enough relaxing, now we’re down to business and heading out of town to Cradle Mountain National Park. Our main hike begins from Dove Lake with two walking options available. There is the iconic Dove Lake Circuit which is a 6km track, classified as easy and usually takes 2 hours. This is one of the premier walks in Tasmania, the track skirts around Dove Lake and in the shadows of Cradle Mountain.
For the more active, we offer the chance to climb to the loftier heights of Marion’s Lookout. This is around 4km but is classified as a medium-grade hike, with some steep sections. Marions Lookout sits at 1200m ASL and provides breathtaking 360-degree views of the surrounding World Heritage wilderness area. If you are up to it, why not do both!
Our reward, apart from the sense of achievement, is to stop off at Van Diemens Land Ice Creamery and Christmas Hills Raspberry Farm, to indulge!

Today we bid farewell to Launceston and head to the east coast and south to Freycinet National Park. Our first port of call has to be the 45min climb up to the Wineglass Bay lookout, one of the most iconic views of Tasmania. From here we will head down to Wineglass Bay beach on the picture-perfect sands. From here you have the choice to take the 2.5km walk back to the start, or Hazards Beach’s 11km circuit. Make your decision on the day.
Our reward, apart from the sense of achievement, is to stop off at Devil’s Corner Winery, to enjoy the magnificent views, wine tasting, wood-fired pizza, fresh seafood, and Oysters from Freycinet Marine Farm. Sounds like a plan (and a bit of a theme happening here)!

Today we leave the island for another island; Maria Island. Maria Island has a fascinating history, which our tour guides will share with you as we walk the trails. Many cultures have once been to the island, including the Tyreddeme Aboriginals, Dutch, English, French and Italians. The island has been home to explorers, whalers, sealers, convicts, fishermen, farmers and industrialists.
Also on the Island is World Heritage listed Darlington Settlement, one of the best examples of Probation Convict Settlements in the world. The Darlington convict settlement pre-dates the more widely known Port Arthur.
We enjoy a series of easy-moderate walks exploring the history and the main highlights of the island. Setting out on foot we have 2 main walking trails for the day, covering a total distance of almost 10km including the Fossil Cliffs trail and the Painted Cliffs trail.
From here we take the ferry back to the main island and a very strategically placed fresh fish and chip van innocently sits awaiting our patronage. It’s just another reward for our efforts!

On the sixth day we rest, well until about 9.00am then we’re off again for a tasty kinda day. Tasmania is well know for its wines and cheese, so let’s go try them out for ourselves. The day has a laid back feel about it, but don’t rest on your laurels as we’d hate for you to miss out on some of Tasmania’s finest flavours.

And we’re off again, to another island off the island, this time Bruny Island. We have a great little combo of fauna, flora and food today. Today is a magical mystery tour of short walks (approx 6km), stair climbs (279 to be precise to view the isthmus), and tasty treats – if you like chocolate, cheese, honey, or oysters, you are in for a treat today!

Sadly, our time in Tassie has almost come to an end, but not quite. This morning there is a choice of iconic destinations we still haven’t visited. If you love seeing artisans displaying their wares, then the markets at Salamanca are one of the best in the country. However, if art is more your thing, MONA may be high on your must-visit list. Be back at the hotel for the group transfer back to the airport by midday.
