Tour Details

Join us on an extraordinary adventure, where we delve further into the enchanting heart of Europe, uncovering the hidden gems often missed by other tours. While many simply pass through the Czech Republic, we invite you to immerse yourself in its rich culture, picturesque landscapes, and confronting history.

We’ll start in the UNESCO World Heritage site of Cesky Krumlov, with its almost magical fairytale look and feel about it. It has it all, from its very own medieval castle to winding cobbled-stone streets. This town promises a truly unique introduction to this intriguing country. But that’s just the beginning.

In the captivating city of Prague, we will unravel the rich tapestry of history as we explore the charming Old Town travelling in style in vintage cars with an English-speaking driver passionate and proud of their city’s stories.

We’ll venture further into Czechia, where the quaint villages, artisan trades, and the serenity of the Bohemian Forest surround you.

Our expert guides will lead you through Czechia’s history, from its Bohemian roots to the more recent chapters of its communist past. There is even an option to come face to face with the reality of war with a visit to Terezin Concentration Camp if you so choose.

Itinerary

Day 1Arrive Cesky Krumlov (D)

Welcome to Czechia! If you are joining us from our Bavarian to Budapest, Boat and Bike Tour, your transfer from Passau to Prague is included. Otherwise, meet the group at 6.00pm at the hotel for a welcome dinner.

Day 2Cesky Krumlov (B)

We will be waking up in the ‘the pearl of Southern Bohemia’, this fairy tale semi-island town is home to the second largest castle in the Czech Republic. The mighty Rosenberg family, the Dukes of Krumlov, ruled the town for over 400 years, a period during which Cesky Krumlov was transformed into one of the most beautiful towns in Central Europe. I’m sure the gang from UNESCO had a busy time here as there are so many sites that caught their attention, like it will yours.

We will be able to visit neighbouring towns who have their own unique charm. If castles are your thing, then there are a couple in close proximity.

Day 3Prague City Tour (B)

After breakfast, we will transfer to the nation’s capital, Prague. After checking into our hotel for the next four nights and a bit of free time for lunch, we will get a lift from the boys with the vintage cars in town. They promise us a fun-filled, educational tour showing us Prague from a Czech person’s perspective in the comfort of their pride and joys.

From Wenceslas Square to Prague Castle, from the Jewish Quarter to John Lennon Wall we will get to see all the sites, as well as some unknown ones. There’ll be plenty of opportunity to stop for photos along the way.

Day 4Karlovy Vary (B)

Today we’ll head west out of Prague to Karlovy Vary, the biggest spa town in the Czech Republic. It has to be one of the prettiest towns with its stunning architecture and romantic atmosphere. We’ll walk with our private guide through the same streets as the German poet Johann Wolfgang Goethe, who met his last love while relaxing in the bohemian spas, and the Russian Tzar Peter I, who visited Karlovy Vary three times. Admire the place where Antonin Dvorak performed his symphony ‘From the New World’ for the first time, or feel like James Bond while walking down the halls of the Grand Hotel Pupp where the 2006 movie Casino Royale was filmed.

Hot springs, amazing colonnades, Bohemian glass, and much more!

Day 5Bohemian & Saxon Switzerland National Park (12km hike) (B)

The name of this park may be very confusing as it’s nowhere near Switzerland or England. It is a national park in the north-west of the Czech Republic, and east of Saxony, the landlocked federal state of Germany.

It features staggering sandstone rock formations that developed over millions of years. The beauty of the place above all lies in a combination of several natural phenomena – majestic rocks and rock cities, amazing lookouts, romantic valleys, wild ravines, deep forests, caves, the curving Elbe River, and unique flora and fauna.

We will hit all of the park’s highlights, including Europe’s largest natural sandstone arch Pravcicka Gate, Hensko village (a beautiful park in the style of half-timbered houses), and the romantic boat ride on the Gorges of Kamenice, as well as Bastei Bridge. We’ll even fit in an optional hike with our local guide before heading back to Prague late afternoon.

Day 6Kutna Hora (B, D)

Another day, another UNESCO World Heritage site. Today we take a journey through the picturesque Eastern Bohemia countryside to the town of Kutna Hora. In the Middle Ages it was a big city, second only in size to Prague, and booming due to its rich silver resources. We will walk through the historic centre, see the former Royal Mint, Royal Residence and Medieval Mint. While a little gruesome, a visit to the the ‘Bone Church’ is sure to intrigue. Here we will see thousands of human bones arranged in intricate decorations. Something a little less eerie is St Barbara’s Church with its stunning Gothic architecture and stained glass windows.

This afternoon, if you would like to visit the Terezin Concentration Camp, this can be arranged.

For our final night together we experience Prague from a different vantage point, from the river. We’ll enjoy the views of Prague lit up as we sail past on our relaxing dinner cruise. No better way to end our time in the Czech Republic.

Day 7Depart (B)

Our time has come to an end, whether you have been with us a week, a fortnight or perhaps the whole month, we will bid you farewell after breakfast as you head home, or on to your next adventure.

Suzanne Holden

Host
Suzanne was born and raised England and as soon as she was old enough to get her own passport, she was off.  Never really one to be dazzled by the bright lights of the cities, off the beaten track was always her preference.

Her first trip was to the USA, to North Carolina and the Blue Ridge Mountains. She recalls, ‘This was my first time on an aeroplane and just after take-off all the oxygen masks were released and swinging above every passengers’ head. I assumed that was normal practice. We never did find out whether it was a fault, or pilot error.  But the good part was, they didn’t bother to land again to investigation the problem!’

This was the start of Suzanne’s love of travel.  In her early 20s she moved to Wales and then Australia.  Again, with no interest in the cities, she has always lived in regional centres of Victoria, NSW, North Queensland and now lives in Toowoomba, Queensland.

She spent many years behind the scenes of ICON Adventures learning the ropes, working between her shifts as a police officer.  The opportunity arose to take over the helm at ICON in 2016. And continues in this position today.
